Forged vs Plate Flanges: How to Compare a Quotation
Manufacturing route and product specification are part of compliance. Similar-looking flanges are not necessarily equivalent purchasing items.

Specify route and product standard
State whether a forged component is required. A plate material certificate is not a forging certificate. ASTM A182 and ASTM A240 address different product forms and should not be exchanged by alloy name alone.
Check what the standard permits
Some flange forms and materials may permit plate manufacture under defined conditions. Do not generalise that all plate flanges are acceptable—or that every plate flange is prohibited. Check the exact standard, type and project code.
Inspect hub, bore and thickness
A slip-on flange with a hub and a flat plate ring may differ in geometry and compliance. Request a dimensioned drawing, required tolerances, material route and inspection records.
Compare like for like
Place material specification, grade, manufacturing route, standard edition, type, class, facing, bore, traceability and delivery scope side by side. Escalate deviations for approval before order placement.
This guide supports enquiry preparation. Use the ordered standard edition and responsible engineering review for material selection, pressure–temperature rating and joint acceptance.
